Background Trait Karrnath: +2 Athletics
This human male turns his head with disturbing swiftness, staring intently back at you before nodding once, warily. His bearing is alert, regimented, and nearly military. He appears to be somewhere between late twenties and early thirties in age, with dark brown hair falling nearly to his shoulders, a short well-kept beard, and pale skin nearly the color of alabaster. His eyes are dark, but flicker briefly with a carmine hue as he observes his surroundings.
He wears functional, simple clothing in somber colors, and a soldier’s gambeson of light leather and quilting, with a few quality steel armor pieces: sturdy greaves over a pair of worn leather boots, and tasset and faulds around his waist. Strapped to his right shoulder is a heavy steel pauldron, in the shape of a snarling wolf’s head. Over his outfit he wears a heavy, dark cloak clasped with a dragon skull brooch, with the hood draped around his shoulders. A silver ring set with a black opal gleams on the middle finger of his left hand. Tied to his belt is an ornate worked sword hilt, with a short jagged length of blade; wrapped around it is a pendant with a small, but sturdy crystal vial filled with a crimson fluid.
Viktor was one of the few who walked away after the Battle of Saerun Road on the Day of Mourning. A Karrnathi soldier and dedicated adherent to the Blood of Vol faith, his own fortitude and belief carried him through the battle and the curse levied upon him by the final dying words of an Emerald Claw necromancer. Since that day, however, he was changed, saddled with an unnatural blood thirst that he managed into the service of his faith and his country.
Wandering Khorvaire after the end of the Last War, he found himself among a handful of other travelers, and has crossed the continent, from the Lhazaar isles to Droaam. It was in that monstrous nation that his curse finally overtook him completely, spurred by the unholy energies within a tainted temple to the Sovereign Host. Viktor and his companions cleansed the place, eradicating its vampiric and necromantic inhabitants, but soon afterward he was overcome by the change which began years ago at Saerun Road.
Dead, yet living, his faith has restored a measure of control over himself, but it was also the appearance of a strange dragonmark over his heart that seems to have aided in preserving the Karrnathi veteran’s humanity. Viktor has a part to play in the Draconic Prophecy, but what role that is, he does not yet know.
Recalled to Duty: Viktor swore an oath to uphold and defend his nation, and though he is discharged, he knows he may be called into duty again someday. But how? What threat would demand such a response?
Family Ties: Viktor’s family still lives, and he has taken pains to visit them now and again during his travels, bringing tales of the world, and funds to support them in times of hardship. Still, he has yet to fully explain how he has changed… and what if any enemies he has made should know of his family?
The Truth of the Blood: Despite his devotion to his faith, Viktor has never been officially inducted into any higher ranks of the church heirarchy, nor does he know of the origins of the Blood of Vol. Despite his experiences, he is still unsure exactly why he changed, or for what purpose. What sort of attraction would his abilities draw from someone more powerful?
Remnants of the Last War: The Last War touched almost everyone on Khorvaire and beyond in some way or other, specially Viktor. He will not harm civilian targets, and despises anyone who preys upon the innocent in their path. He has still seen his fair share of battles, and borne witness to the Day of Mourning. With so many others having had flashbacks and worse, despite his strong will and sense of purpose, there may still be some as-yet unknown way his experiences will affect him.
Blood Drinker, Taste of Life: Baring razor-sharp fangs, Viktor lunges forward, and as his teeth sink deep, his opponent is left bleeding from rents in their flesh, while he moves with greater vigor.
Dark Beckoning, Domineering Gaze, Hunter’s Gaze: Viktor turns his attention fully onto a target, catching them in an unflinching glare that bends them to his will as his eyes narrow, flickering with deep blood-colored light.
Dark Menace, Feral Assault, Unfettered Hunger: Loosing a deep-throated snarl, Viktor moves with incredible fervor, fangs lengthening and eyes blazing crimson as he claws and bites, roaring and howling savagely with every strike.
Form of the Bat: Viktor’s form suddenly contracts and darkens as he leaps skyward, and in his place is an almost wolf-like creature with black leathery wings, gleaming red eyes and prominent ivory canines.
Gaseous Form: A sudden fog arises around Viktor, thickening to nearly opaque, and soon he is nowhere to be seen, leaving behind only a creeping whitish carpet of mist streaked with scarlet and carmine, seemingly moving with a will of its own.
Lifeblood, Shroud of Shadow, Strength of Blood: “The Blood of Divinity is with Me!” Viktor recites fervently, pausing only long enough to voice the words before moving with redoubled speed and vitality.
Swarm of Shadows: Viktor’s form suddenly blurs into incredible speed as he lunges from one spot to another, striking with claws and fangs at every opponent nearby, and the very air darkens as if his shadow is striving to follow his every motion at once.
Vampire Slam: With incredible force and precision, Viktor lunges out at his target, striking with taloned hands or a hard kick or knee strike, landing a blow so fiercely that his enemy staggers back, nearly thrown to the ground by his assault.
Shattered Blade: A jagged remnant of a blade—still razor-sharp—protrudes from the ornate hilt of a Karrnathi bastard sword. Despite its unsuitability as a weapon, the hilt is still polished and well-kept. (Iron Ki Focus +3)
Karrnathi Gambeson: Sturdy charcoal-grey quilting and heavy brown suede with brass rivets form this close-fitting garment, covering the wearer from neck to thigh, and offering a measure of light protection. (Veteran’s Kestrekel Feather Armor +3)
Draconic Clasp: A pair of garnets polished to gleaming are set into the eye sockets of this stylized silver dragon skull. The jaws are hinged and spring-mounted to bite into the cloth of a cloak, securing it as tightly as any pin or brooch. (Amulet of Vigor +2)
Red Wolf Pauldron: Originally the top half of a helm, this oversized pauldron resembles the head of a snarling wolf, fangs bared and gleaming. It is scored and gouged from years of protecting its wearer, and bears traces of old bloodstains that gleam almost as if freshly spilled. (Helm of Seven Deaths)
Battle-Scarred Tassets: Formerly part of a full set of plate armor, this tasset and faulds are scratches and dented, but kept polished and clean. Several jointed plates of steel are riveted to a series of heavy leather belts and straps, covering the hips, groin and upper thighs. (Belt of Vigor)
Blademaster’s Greaves: Another salvaged fragment of Viktor’s former panoply, these plated shin guards show signs of hard use, but are light and still quite protective. (Boots of the Fencing Master)
Rekkenmark Academy Ring: This baroque silver ring, set with a polished black fire opal, is bestowed only to honorable veterans and heroes of the Order of Rekkenmark. (Power Jewel)
Campaign Bedroll: Resilient, light leather and canvas form the outer layer of this bedroll. Travel-worn and long-used though it is, its wool and cotton interior provide a comfortable rest. (Restful Bedroll)
Vial of Khyber’s Blood: Sealed in this tiny crystal flask is a sample of a liquid from a pool deep within Khyber. The dark reddish substance flows easily within the container, and is slightly warm to the touch. (Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds)
